OFW Lounge Project Launched at Davao International Airpor

28 December 2025

The DMW has begun construction of an OFW Lounge at Davao International Airport, strengthening facilities and services for Filipino migrant workers.

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has officially launched the OFW Lounge Project at Davao City International Airport, marking another step in improving airport facilities for overseas Filipino workers. The groundbreaking ceremony, held on December 23, 2025, signaled the start of construction for a dedicated space designed to provide comfort, assistance, and support to departing and returning OFWs.

The project aligns with the national government’s broader commitment to migrant welfare, following President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to establish specialized support areas for OFWs in major transport hubs. This initiative expands on the existing OFW lounges currently operating at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminals 1 and 3, which have been well received by migrant workers.

The ceremonial launch was led by DMW Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac, with the participation of Mindanao Development Authority Secretary Leo Tereso Magno and officials from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines. Their presence underscored the collaboration between national agencies to ensure the project’s timely and efficient implementation.

Construction of the OFW Lounge is expected to be completed between May and June 2026. Once operational, the facility will offer OFWs a more welcoming and supportive airport experience, reinforcing the government’s ongoing efforts to recognize the vital role migrant workers play in the country’s economy and development.
