Church officials from the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Jesus Nazareno have confirmed that four individuals died during the 2026 Traslacion activities, marking a tragic development amid one of the country’s largest religious gatherings.
According to authorities, the fatalities involved three devotees who were actively participating in the procession and one photojournalist who was covering the event. The information was officially validated by both the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the leadership of the Quiapo Church.
This year’s Traslacion lasted for nearly 31 hours, making it the longest procession recorded to date. Despite the extended duration and challenging conditions, millions of devotees flocked to the streets of Manila to take part in the annual event honoring the Feast of Jesus Nazareno.
The massive turnout once again highlighted the deep-rooted faith and unwavering devotion of Filipinos, as devotees endured long hours in prayer and procession. Church and government authorities reiterated their commitment to improving safety measures while continuing to respect the spiritual significance of the event.
