President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the naming and delivery ceremony of the world’s first Methanol Dual-Fuelled KAMSARMAX bulk carrier in Balamban, Cebu, marking a major milestone for both the Philippine shipbuilding industry and the global push toward sustainable maritime transport.
Built at the Tsuneishi Heavy Industries shipyard, the vessel represents a significant advancement in green shipping technology. Designed to operate using both methanol and conventional marine fuel, the ship is engineered to substantially reduce carbon emissions while maintaining high operational efficiency.
During the ceremony, the President emphasized the importance of innovation, sustainability, and technological leadership in strengthening the Philippines’ role in the global shipbuilding sector. He highlighted that the successful completion of such a highly advanced vessel reflects the world-class expertise of Filipino engineers, shipbuilders, and maritime workers.
