29 December 2025
Nine Filipino survivors of human trafficking in Myanmar have safely returned home, receiving immediate support and welfare assistance from the Department of Migrant Workers and OWWA.
Nine overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who are survivors of human trafficking in Myanmar safely returned to the Philippines on Sunday evening, arriving at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 aboard Thai Airways, just in time to reunite with their families for the New Year.
The returning OFWs were warmly received by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), led by Assistant Secretary Maria Regina Angela Galias, in coordination with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and the NAIA Task Force Against Human Trafficking (NAIATFAT).
Upon arrival, the survivors were provided with immediate financial assistance and welfare support from the DMW and OWWA. They are scheduled to report to the DMW in January 2026 to receive legal assistance and further case management.
The successful repatriation reflects the Philippine government’s sustained efforts to combat human trafficking and to protect the rights and welfare of Filipino workers overseas, in accordance with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. The DMW reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that trafficking survivors receive comprehensive support, recovery assistance, and access to justice as they reintegrate into their communities.
