Partnership Overview

On August 27, DMW and SSS signed a formal agreement to collaborate on enhancing social protection for migrant workers and their families.

Under the MOA, both agencies will launch a broad information campaign to raise awareness about SSS membership, benefits packages, and social-security coverage that OFWs and returning workers can avail.

What the MOA Aims to Achieve
  • Improve access to social security benefits — including retirement, disability, unemployment, sickness, maternity, and death/funeral benefits — for OFWs and migrant workers.

  • Ensure returning OFWs during reintegration receive support and social-security coverage as part of a full-cycle welfare approach.

  • Expand membership outreach: the SSS aims to engage more overseas workers and dependents, making social protection more inclusive.

Why It Matters

Many Overseas Filipino Workers face uncertainty about social-security coverage, especially after returning home or when moving abroad for work. The partnership between DMW and SSS seeks to close that gap by providing clear information and accessible social-security mechanisms.

For returning OFWs, this MOA ensures they are not left behind — helping guarantee their financial security, access to benefits, and smoother reintegration.

What To Watch Next

DMW and SSS will roll out nationwide awareness campaigns and encourage OFWs to register or maintain SSS membership.

They may also develop tailored social-security products or provident-fund options specifically for migrant workers — to address their unique circumstances and needs.
