An 8-year-old Filipino-American girl was among four people killed when a birthday celebration in Stockton, California, turned into a mass shooting over the weekend. The incident took place Saturday evening inside a crowded banquet hall with more than a hundred guests in attendance.

Witnesses initially believed the gunfire was the sound of a popping balloon or even a car crash, only realizing the severity of the situation when multiple guests were found wounded. A total of 17 people were injured, and among the fatalities was 8-year-old Journey Rose Guerrero.

Outside the venue, community members have gathered to leave flowers, letters, and stuffed toys for the victims.

Suspects Still at Large

Authorities report that the shooting appears to have been targeted and may have involved multiple gunmen. The FBI, local police, and county officials are urging the public to submit any information that may lead to identifying and arresting the suspects. Reward money has been offered.

In a joint statement, the FBI Sacramento Field Office and the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office appealed for details related to suspects, vehicles, weapons, or any planning activity linked to the incident.

Officials also noted that the banquet hall’s operational permits may be incomplete and are currently under review.

Authorities continue to call on party attendees and the wider community to assist in the ongoing investigation.
